They specifically recommend “the cleaning and disinfection of homes and facilities.
Do I need to sanitize my Air Ducts?
For clients who are concerned about viruses and bacteria, among other potential pathogens in their home or business and are seeking peace of mind, sanitizing your air ducts is the answer.
What does Sanitizing do for my HVAC system?
Our HVAC sanitizing process combines the germ-killing ability of a disinfectant with a cleaning agent to clean and kill viruses, mold, mildew, bacteria and other organisms while sanitizing, disinfecting and deodorizing your air ducts simultaneously.
Does sanitizing my HVAC air ducts kill COVID-19, AKA Coronavirus?
Yes, Dirti Ducts uses an EPA registered and approved commercial cleaner and disinfectant for HVAC systems that are highly effective against a wide variety of pathogenic organisms.
It is a true Virucidal, Bactericidal, Fungicidal, Mildewstat and Tuberculocidal.
In addition to COVID 19, our EPA approved commercial duct cleaning sanitizing product also kills the following pathogens.

How are air ducts sanitized?
While not required, rather an extra safety precaution for our residential and commercial customers, the premises must be vacant of all persons and pets while we perform the sanitization process.
All animals and plants should be removed from inside of the house. Larger plants, fish tanks, and aquaria should be covered during the process as well. In addition, exposed food items for human and pet consumption as well as oral items such as toothpicks or toothbrushes should be put away during the process.
Once items in your home or office are secured, Dirti Ducts sanitization process is as follows.
- We saturate (Dwell Time) all parts of the HVAC system with the viricide for a total of 10 minutes.
COVID-19 is dead within two minutes of total contact time with the disinfectant, other germs and viruses can take up to 10 minutes to die.
The product that we use recommends applying the disinfectant for two minutes, at Dirti Ducts we apply it for 10 minutes in an effort to kill everything that is a threat as much as possible.
The air in the home (Not in your HVAC system) is also sanitized and disinfected during our fogging procedure of your HVAC system. Because the fog does not stop at the register where the air blows out, rather it continues throughout areas of your home or business, both the ductwork and the air in your building is sanitized.
Once sanitizing and disinfecting are completed, and because at Dirti Ducts we truly believe in taking extra precautions, the dwelling should remain unoccupied for a minimum of one hour.
Is Air Duct Sanitizing Safe?
Sanitizing your air ducts is indeed safe. As soon as the sanitizer in your ductwork has dried it biodegrades itself and is completely harmless without leaving grit or harmful residue behind.
If by chance you come in contact with the sanitizer, it’s as simple as washing it away with soap and water.
Air Duct Cleaning in conjunction with SanitizingAt Dirti Ducts we recommend sanitizing your ductwork in conjunction with air duct cleaning. By doing this the air ducts and all of the components are sterilized and disinfected at the time of service.
If there is a new threat later then your air ducts would need to be sanitized and disinfected again. Think of it as if you washed your hands and then later you sneezed on them, they would need to be washed again. If there is no new threat then it would not be necessary to do it again.
Can I just have my Air Ducts Sanitized?
Dirti Ducts will sanitize and disinfect any HVAC system and ductwork without cleaning, however, if the sanitizer does not have the ability to come in direct contact with the virus, germ, mold, mildew, fungus or any other threat then sanitizing cannot kill the pathogens.
For example, let’s say you have mud on your hand from working out in the garden. Let’s go even further to say you suspect that under the mud you have a virus on your hands so you spray them with Lysol. The Lysol may not kill the virus unless the spray penetrated all the way through the mud.
Same can be said for your air ducts if they have not been cleaned and are full of dust, debris, and other contaminants, the sanitizer will more than likely not be able to penetrate through the debris.
Our professional opinion is that it would be somewhat effective to do standalone sanitizing however, we don’t feel like it would be the most effective scenario.
I just had my air ducts cleaned and sanitized a short while ago, can get them sanitized again?
Yes, if within a reasonable amount of time you would like your air ducts sanitized and disinfected again then there would be no need to clean your air ducts again as the dirt build-up and accumulation had not occurred which would lead to blocking the chemical from doing its job.
